Last year, the nation commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots with record-setting Pride parades and festivals across the country. This year, however, Pride will look quite a bit different. In-person marches, parades and festivals have been transferred online, and much of the celebrating will be done from home. As celebration isn’t tied to any one event, though, here are 7 colorful ways you can still take part in Pride 2020!

Attend a virtual parade

Pride celebrations across the nation, from New York City to Los Angeles and everywhere in between, have opted to go virtual in 2020. Find your city’s organization and browse their online offerings for the month. Musical performances, conferences and celebrity cameos may all be on the agenda!

Host your own virtual event

If even virtual crowds aren’t your thing, consider inviting some close friends to a video-chat celebration! Designate a fun, festive prize and dole out Pride-themed trivia questions, or organize an online watch party. Last year, Time published 8 LGBTQ Documentaries to Watch During Pride Month, so consider popping some popcorn and queuing one up.

Cook up some colorful treats

Why not use excess time at home to get some use out of that nearly-new electric mixer, or the cake stand that hasn’t been used since Christmas? Martha Stewart has cooked up an array of colorful, tasty treats, from a festive Rainbow Layer Cake to playful End-of-the-Rainbow Cookies. If baked goods aren’t your speed, you can still taste the rainbow with a fresh fruit salad!

Make colorful arts and crafts

If you have children at home, or if you’re just feeling creative, find a fun, artistic activity to tackle. HGTV offers straightforward instructions for plenty of colorful crafts, including rainbow-shaped earrings, brightly colored cord bracelets, and painted rocks.

Place rainbow decor outside

Flying the rainbow flag or displaying a DIY Rainbow Doormat, Pride Pom-Pom Wreath or Wax Paper Rainbow Art will add a touch of color to your neighborhood, and send a message of support to anyone in the community who may need it! If you’re feeling particularly festive, you could give patio furniture or the exterior of your home a fresh coat of paint

Donate to a cause that speaks to you

Research LGBTQ+ organizations, both local and world-wide, and consider giving what you can to financially show your support. Transgender Law Center, Live Out Loud and Human Rights Campaign may be good places to start, but with thousands of organizations doing meaningful work, there are sure to be at least few that speak to you personally.

Educate yourself

Seek out diverse voices, take to the internet, or read materials by LGBTQ+ authors. The enlightening story behind why we celebrate Pride every year may just inspire you and your local LGBTQ+ history could provide a brand new viewpoint.

In the age of social distancing, community is needed more now than ever. Even a few at-home activities this month can bring the festive Pride spirit straight into your living room!
